The Britten Sinfonia has partnered with London’s Wigmore Hall to launch OPUS 2013, a commissioning project for an unpublished composer resident in the UK. A new work by the chosen composer, to be written for oboe, harp and string quartet, will be premiered by the Britten Sinfonia during its At Lunch series in Cambridge, Norwich and at the Wigmore Hall in April 2013. The composer will also receive mentoring from Huw Watkins, a broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and a commissioning fee.

‘OPUS 2013 is hoping to discover new talent amongst composers who are not currently on the radar of the music industry,’ said Britten Sinfonia chief executive David Butcher. ‘We’re going for the direct approach – simply asking composers who are unpublished to get in touch with us – and we’re looking forward to hearing from them and to listening to their music.’

The Britten Sinfonia has commissioned 21 new works over the past five years by composers including Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, Judith Weir, James MacMillan, Luke Bedford, Charlie Piper and Helen Grime.
